Well he did killed Michael in part 2 and wanted his story to be over. He wanted to turn the series into a big screen horror anthology like Creepshow, Grindhouse, Twilight Zone or Tales from The Crypt of different Halloween themed horror tales ever year and Halloween 3 was the only movie to experiment on this idea.

I will explain you why 3 is not about Michael. After John did the sequel to the original, he said he killed Michael. So he decided that the Halloween serie would change of story every single movies. But the fans thought like you so he borught back Michael for the 4th and so on.
I was thinking the same thing.

I thought Halloween 3 & the Rob Zombie were horrible as well as 4-5. Although I didn’t favor the plotline from Halloween 6, I thought the music composition for the film was amazing

That was because Carpenter who wrote Halloween 2 had enough of Michael Myers and wanted his story to be over. He came up with a concept to make the franchise into a big screen “Tales from The Crypt”, “Creepshow”, “Grindhouse”, “Twilight Zone”-esque anthology of big screen Halloween themed horror stories every year of different villains, different characters, and what other evil lives in Haddonfield.
It seems to be both the handiest and most practical thing (at the same time), plus the fact that his original murder weapon was a kitchen knife might have something to do with it.
I have to be honest: that Mr. Sandman song is just wrong for this kind of movie. (The closest that I find that you can come to successfully coupling “Sandman” with slasher is by setting Metallica–Enter Sandman to A Nightmare On Elm Street, which would be a very good match if you ask me.)

Haha, Yea good eye i was waiting for one more person in the world to notice that. But then again it also happens in Jason movies and Freddy movies well not the rain but other things so not that suprising..
